Los Angeles is notorious for tearing down anything older than 50 years. (A personal concern since I was born in 1960)
But Carroll Avenue in Angelino Heights (east of Echo Park and south of Dodger Stadium) is proof that if we keep our hands to ourselves, we can preserve something amazing. Lined with Victorian manors, Carroll Avenue gives a rare glimpse of what life for the prosperous was like in the 1800s. A trip back to the elegance of Old California.

A walking tour of the area is conducted the first Saturday of the month by the Los Angeles Conservancy. Cost is $10.00 per person. Reservations are required as the group is usually invited into one of the homes.
