Cheap & Cheerful Getty - Mailbu and West Los Angeles

The Getty Villa and Getty Center are in the pantheon of Cheap and Cheerful offerings. Two world class museums that are free to the public. The only requirement is a little planning in regards to reservations and parking.

The Getty Villa ( 7985 Pacific Coast Highway) is an educational center and museum dedicated to the study of the arts and cultures of ancient Greece, Rome, and Etruria. Villa hours are Thursday - Monday, 10am -5pm. The Villa is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. An advance, timed ticket is required for each adult. Each Villa general admission ticket allows you to bring up to three children ages 15 and under with you in one car. Please note that access to the Getty Villa entrance is only from the northbound right-hand lane of Pacific Coast Highway (PCH).

The Getty Center (1200 Getty Center Drive) presents collections of Western Art from the Middle Ages, not to mention dramatic architecture, gardens, and breathtaking views. Hours are Tuesday - Friday, 10am to 5:30pm; Saturday, 10am - 9pm; Sunday 10am - 5:30pm; The Center is closed on Mondays. Admission to the Getty Center and to all exhibitions is Free—no tickets or reservations are required. HOWEVER, parking is $15 per car.

The Cheap & Cheerful (and really wonderful) way to see the Getty Center is to plan a trip for Saturday evening, when parking is free after 5pm.
