This blog is not about restaurants, but a hike in Ferndall Park (Ferndall Drive & Los Feliz Blvd) is made that much better by having coffee and a treat at Trails restaurant. Ferndall Park is at the base of Griffith Park on the Los Angeles side, just east of where Western Avenue elbows to the east and becomes Los Feliz Blvd.
Waterfalls, small bridges and ferns from all over the world make this a shady retreat on a hot day. Parking is plentiful but popular, so the early hiker gets the spot. There is a playground on the east side of the trail should younger hikers need a diversion. About 10 minutes up the path you will come upon Trails restaurant which is a breakfast/lunch/coffee spot. Since parking is free, and there is no admission fee to the park, live it up and have a pastry or sandwich.
Trails is open 8a.m. - 6:30pm Tues. - Sat.
